New traffic

Lately there has been a lot of new traffic to my blog which I am so happy about.

Thanks to Mollie Makes and Danielle from Thompsonfamily, I suddenly have big interest from the States as well, which is so great to see how you get around in this blog world.

A new coat

Today when I was sitting making some cushions for my Webshop, I suddenly got an idea.

I needed a new coat for my sewing machine! I always put a cloth over it every day to protect it from dust and light, and it is always looking so messy and is not very handy. I do have a special box for it, but that is a heavy big thing to remove every time I want to use the machine. It’s more for transportation.

So I started this morning right away with making a new coat for my sewing machine using some vintage fabric. I made it with a thick lining so it will keep the form.

I am pretty happy with the result and think it suits the room as well.

Yesterday I made two of my new bags for my Webshop. One for a boy and one for a girl. It was indeed a little tote bag to take with you when you are visiting grandma and grandpa. But it is also nice to use as an organizer in a kids room.

Long wanted organizer

Our living room and kitchen are together in one room. That’s where the family always come together and was we mostly live. It also means that mail and magazines and folders end up lying on the kitchen table all the time.

I like when things are organized and not very messy, but it‘s difficult sometimes with a kitchen/living room. We have this Ikea-thing hanging on the wall which has been holding some of the things, but it didn’t work very well and looked very messy.

A long time ago I was designing a new organizer for the wall (I couldn’t find something I liked in the shops, critical as I am!) and my husband promised to make one for us. But every time I brought it up, he didn’t have time or energy to make one.

Finally last week when we all had holiday, we made it together. I am very pleased with it and it just fit perfectly into our room. Now we have a special place for the mail, the bill's we still have to pay, the magazines and pens. And no excuses for having it on the kitchen table:-).

Bib's

I finally started on some new products for my Webshop and the first things I will show you are these two bib’s made from vintage fabrics.

I normally do not use vintage fabrics for my Webshop, but for the bibs I thought it could be nice for a change. The fabrics are Terry cloth and have the same bright colors as the rest of my products, so I think they will blend in perfectly. On the back I have a soft fabric which is on the inside waterproof, which means that the child won’t be wet through the bib.

I am also thinking about making some different models; small and big. What do you prefer for a bib?

New fabrics

Today I received new fabrics from Spoonflower and I am pretty happy with what I got.

It’s for my new style in my Webshop and I just can’t wait to get my fingers into it. But we are busy with other things here in the holiday, so I am afraid that I will have to wait until Monday to start with this. Can you guess what this is going to be??

Vacation at home

I am sorry it’s a bit quiet here at my blog at the moment. We are all four of us enjoying the vacation together here at home. We are relaxing, visiting friends we haven’t seen for a while, going to museums and other places and fixing things here at home which had to be fixed or made a long time ago.

I am also enjoying having a little bit time to explore what pinning can do to you. I finally sign up for Pinterest and I am slowly filling different boards with a lot of great inspiration for in or around the house. I won’t be addicted to it I hope, but I can see what people mean when they are hooked and I think I can handle it. We will see!

Slowly..

I am working in a much more slowly speed here at home at the moment. I am struggling with my energy, headaches and distraction from all kind off things, which means that not much is going on here.

I did though yesterday finished a lot of my cute purses, which means that my stocking is growing slowly to what I want it to be, but it is not going in the speed that I wanted.

But I am not worrying either. I have the time at the moment to take it easy, and that is also fine to be able to do that. Sometimes I just want too much and though I am a woman, and I am able to do a lot of different things in one time, my body tells me differently now and then and call's me down to earth again to take it more slowly.

Today I want to start on a new project of mine which is about the fabric with the harts. What I am going to do with it, I show you another time. This is just to make you a little bit curios.

Carnival

Carnival has started here in Holland, and the girls were celebrating the carnival at school Friday afternoon, which meant that everybody had to dress up and wear a costume.

The girls love to dress up and as I showed you in the beginning of the week Alieke were going to be a beautiful colorful bird. Emmelie wanted to be Pippi Langstrømpe and I think that it was the perfect choice for here. She could be Pippi for real if we let her. :-)

The pictures of the girls are not the best. We had to do it quick and fast in their lunch break and later I didn’t get a chance. I want to do them over again one of the next following days if I get the time. A costume like the bird needs beautiful pictures as well I think. I (by the way) just sign in for a photo workshop in March. Portrait and studio pictures! Then I hope to get some good tips and tricks for here at home. But for now you can get an impression of how they looked like for carnival.

After school I promise them that they each could bring two girlfriends with them home for Fastelavnsboller (Danish carnival rolls). I wanted to give my girls something from the Danish traditions of carnival and promise the girls that I would make a little carnival’s party for them, where they could make something as well for carnival as we know in Denmark.

The girls were very happy about the idea and Friday after school 6 (Dutch) dressed up girls were having a great time making Danish ‘Fastelavnsris’. Here is what they made.

We used paper, candy, bracelets, popcorn and lollypops for decorating the branches and the result was beautiful and simple.Have a look!

Carnival is almost here and the girls love to dress up and can’t wait until it’s time to celebrate carnival at school.

But together with carnival the big question also comes?? What to wear this year? Are who or what am I going to look like?

Emmelie (my youngest) was easy to help. I convinced her to be Pippi Langstrømpe. For her I already have all her clothes and the orange wig that is needed, but Alieke wasn’t sure what to wear and what to be.

By Marapytta in Denmark I have seen her make these beautiful wings from a lot of different fabrics and my fingers were dying to try something like that as well.

I showed Alieke some photos and she was sold immediately. A bird she was going to be! Funny enough she has always been dreaming about being able to fly. So maybe... hoe knows?

Together we chose the fabrics from what I had in my drawers and the smile on Alieke’s face started to grow bigger and bigger as the wings started to get color. I decide to make a little skirt with a little tale as well to make it look more complete.

I finished it all last night and when Alieke woke up this morning, the first thing she did was checking out her new costume. Then she came to me in our bedroom with a big smile, jumped under my cover and said. It’s beautiful Mama. I love it!!! ♥♥♥

I know that a lot of you sell or buy handmade stuff from Etsy.com. Today I saw this great interview about the headquarters of Etsy.

Empty!

My stocking baskets are almost empty and I am working hard on getting it filled with goodies for my Webshop now that it has got a new look.

I have been so busy making product for shops that my own stocking has become so poor and empty.

But now the time is there and I have to be focused on making a lot of new products. So that all for now! See you soon again.

Things that matters..

That I love old things is no secret for anyone. Today I want to show you my bedroom. I love it because it’s so fresh and bright and is decorated with things that I like and which have a great value to me.

Like the blanket on the bed for instant. My great, grandmother has made it for me years ago. She was always busy with her crochet needle and she actually wanted to give me this piece of art for my wedding.

But she was old and I wasn’t very fast with finding a partner, so she gave it to me much earlier.

She was a wonderful woman and I loved her very much. She was so strong in mind and hart and lived 103 years. How amazing is that?

The blanket is one of the things I have to look at every day to remind me of a very special great grandmother.

The winter has finally arrived here in Holland and it brings a lot of beautiful pictures and a lot of fun for the children. But it also brings problems for the animals in the nature. Take good care of them and help by bring them some extra food.

I have lately been working a lot on my Webshop. I wanted to give it a fresh new look, and today I finishes the last things. The products are still the same. Soon there will though come some new products, (if time will let me) but I am planning to just continue with what I have.

Sunday at the beach

Yesterday was a beautiful, but cold day at the beach. The sun was shining and the temperature was below zero, but it was lovely to take a walk on the beach and feel the fresh air around you.

The girls didn’t want to go, but with the right clothes on, they had great fun after all.

The light was so beautiful and the ocean was calm, dogs were running happy around and into the cold water and the children were looking for shelves in the sand. A perfect Sunday in January!

Unfortunately Alieke (my eldest) got sick last night. She has got an ear infection and fever. So today we are inside and taking it easy. Have a nice day.

New look!

I am very busy at the moment with a new look for my webshop together with that I am busy producing my known items from the shop as well.

The other day arrived some cards for washing instructions and my address stickers. They can give you a little impression about what is going on and how my new webshop soon will look like.

Pillows in the attic

Last week I showed you a pillowcase I bought for the girl’s room. I was then thinking about making some more matching pillows for it, but my eldest daughter would like to do that as well.

So this weekend, she and I made them together. She is still in the beginning face of learning how to sew and how to use a sewing machine, so we did it all together. Her behind the machine and me standing next to her helping when needed.

We decided to make the pillows very simple and easy. When you have beautiful vintage fabric like these you can do that. They turned out really nice and Alieke was very proud that she had made cushions for her room.

Magiske Måneder - give away!!

About a month ago I was contacted by Helle Schjønning from Denmark, who has written the book 'Magiske måneder' (in English; Magic month). She is thinking about publishing her book in other countries, and Holland is also on her list.

Now she asked me, if she could send me her book and let me have a look at it, and see if I thought it would be something for the Dutch people. I was quite honored and of course I would have a look at the book.

Within a few days the book arrived and I was right away in love with the book (if you could say that about a book?) What a beautiful book, and what a job to make!! It’s a book with 400 pages… so not one of the smallest.

I tell you!! it is filled with so many great ideas for projects with or without your children. For in the nature or home for different occasions and holiday’s. You can find recipes for a sweet tooth and for different meals plus even one for seducing your husband. But she has also recipes for a good scrub if you want to tread your skin a little bit extra.

Many of her ideas are coming from her grandmother. She has been spending a lot of time as child with her grandmother Vera, and she was a woman who was always colleting things from the nature and cooking a lot of different food.

My girls and I have been looking through the book together and there are so many things that we want to do. The book in divided into months as the title say’s and gives you idea’s for all over the year. With this book you can bring a little magic into your home every month without spending a lot of money. I can imagine that it will be a kind of creative bible for us here at home. A book we will have close to us all the time and see what every month can bring us for magic and pleasure.

But I am not the only lucky one to have a free example of this book. You have the chance as well. Helle will donate one for a give away here on my blog. The only thing you will have to do is as followed:

Yesterday the mail came with this beautiful bright cushion from a second hand shop here in Holland. It just fit perfectly next to the yellow closet in the girls room.I think I am going to make some more new cushion for the girls to match.

Recycled wall decoration

I have for a long time wanted to change some decoration on my walls in the living room, but I just wasn’t sure to what? I then started to find different things here at home that I might be able to use and it started with these things you see here underneath.

Last week I slowly started on using and making some things for the decorations. I tried different things out and some of them were thrown away again because it didn’t turn out the way I thought it would and other things were found instead and used with good results. I love using materials I already have here at home without buying anything. I also like to make something different and with a little smile as well.

A small piece of fabric I knitted when I was studying fashion. The embroidery is from a second hand shop and it is felted into the fabric with some wool. The text comes from a magazine and I wasn't sure to place but as it say's...

You know I love old toys and things from my past and I had these cute shoes standing from when I was little, and I just couldn’t resist using them and giving them a new life.

Creative girls

My girls are so fund of doing all kinds of creative projects and every time I give them one, they want more and more and more.

Like this project I gave them for Christmas. A piece of felt with a drawing on and wool in different colors to work with. It came with a special needle for felting and they just have to press the needle lightly into the wool on the fabric and like that they create a picture.

Take a look what my eldest Alieke already made (Emmelie is not that far yet).

But... in a book they saw that you could do other things with the wool, and they kept asking to try that as well.

Today we had the time, and see what happened when you use a lot of soap. We made to start with a little ball, and kept putting more and more wool onto it in different colors, and finally we cut it open and out came a beautiful flower.

Now it only needs a stick to zit on but that is maybe for later today?

Cap or no cap?

It was quite funny to see the reactions yesterday of the little boy. My question was: do I keep him with or without a cap?

The answers were almost fifty, fifty, and a few suggested giving him a red cap instead, which I also had considered.

And here you see the two together with and without a red cap. I must say that I think it’s going to be the one with the red cap.

(And maybe now and then for a change I can use him for something else without a cap.)

1 Year!

Today is exactly 1 year ago that I started my blog. I never thought that I would like it that much and get in touch with so many nice people as I have. It is really a special world to live in and it has given me so much inspiration as well the last year.

I would like to use this opportunity to thank you all for being a part of this blog and sharing thoughts and comments. I hope to see much more of you all the next year as well and can’t wait to explore much more crafty ideas around the world of Blogland.

New book's

Yesterday I received three books that I had ordered last week. ‘Print & Pattern 2’ by Bowie Style, ‘Eline’s huis - Winter’ by Eline Pellinkhof and ‘Make hey - while the sun shines’ by Pip Lincolne.

All three books I have an earlier edition from which inspired me a lot, so I was in the moods for their next edition.

The ‘Print & Pattern 2’ book is just as great as the first one, (filled with beautiful patterns and images), and ‘Eline’s huis’ as well, though there is much more Christmas stuff in than I expected. If I knew that, I would have ordered it much earlier. (But still filled with lot of great ideas)

The last book ‘ Make hey – while the sun shines’ is a big disappointment for me. She shows a lot of things that you can make yourself, but the things were not original enough for me. My expectations were too high I’m afraid, but the book is beautiful made with a lot of pattern’s and instructions for people who is not use to doing a lot of crafting.

Back from a very nice Christmas holiday in Denmark with family, and now busy with some new drawings and ideas for my Webshop.

I am working on changing the style of my Webshop a little bit and this girl popped out of my hand the other day when I was trying some things out.

I think she is a keeper. What do you think?
